Description

Grows in grassy areas, along paths, on waste ground, often in single shoots, as well as clumps. Easily missed.

Flowers

Flowering part consists of 4-10 or more, finger-like, spike-like racemes, 2-16 cm long. They do not all arise from a single point, some are borne 1-2 cm below the others.

Leaves

Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. 10 cm long, 3-10 mm wide, soft, hairy or hairless, mostly flat.

Fruits Seeds

Caryopsis: a dry fruit (grain).
