All parts of this plant are toxic.

Grows close to the coast on sand dunes.

Flowers

Bright yellow flowers that develop into a sickle-shaped seed pod.

Leaves

Pinnately lobed leaf with lobes both sides of a central midrib. Lower leaves: lobed along central midrib, oblong, wavy, waxy, leathery.
Upper leaves: similar but clasping the stem.

Fruits Seeds

Capsule: 15-30 cm long, hairless.

Medical

Whole plant: especially the roots, contain an alkaloid called glaucine, which is used to increase airflow to the lungs and as a cough suppressant.
