Description

Hordeum murinum belongs to the family of Hordium vulgare (Barley), the first cereal crop to be cultivated. Its use has been traced back to Neolithic times.

A tufted annual with an unbranched, erect, smooth stem. This grass is commonly found near road sides, waste ground, garrigue and olive groves.

The flower stalk is a dense spike-like structure.

Leaves

Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. Blade, hairy on both sides, shiny where it encircles the stem, 2-4 mm wide.
