Description

This is a parasitic plant that survives by tapping into roots of thyme and other plants in the mint family. It looks similar to the brown orchid Neottia nidus-avis, but Orobanche have just 5 petals.

Flowers

A glandular, hairy plant. The fragrant flowers vary in colour from purplish-red, yellowish to white in a spike, the lower lip with a hairy margin. The stamens have dense hairy filaments, the stigma is red or purple.

Leaves

Scales leaves resemble green scales e.g. Cupressus, Juniperus. Scale-like, as on Cypress conifers.

Fruits Seeds

Capsule: numerous seeds.
