Description

A plant with a creeping root stock. It grows in semi-arid Mediterranean woodlands to damp habitats.

The common name ‘fleabane’ refers to its use as an incense to drive away insects.

Flowers

The flowers are very noticeable, golden-yellow, daisy-like, with 40-100 disk florets and 20-30 narrow ray florets.

Leaves

Sagittate arrow-head shaped leaf with downward lobes. Arrowhead with downward lobes, alternate, clasping the stem, hairy beneath.

Fruits Seeds

Achene: a cluster of 1-seeded fruit with hairs.

Medical

Whole plant: was used to treat dysentery.
