Not to be confused with Sambucus nigra. Sambucus ebulus is a perennial, not a tree or shrub.

Branches and leaves are toxic.

Flowers

The small creamy-white, 5-petalled flowers with purple anthersupper fertile part of the stamen containing the pollen form large flat-topped clusters (5-16 cm), later becoming a head of purple black berries.

Leaves

Pinnate row of leaflets on either side of the stem. 5-13 leaflets on either side of the stem, wider in the middle, pointed and serrated.

Fruits Seeds

Drupe: fleshy parts surround a pit, black.
