Description
Meadow salsify grows near water or in moist meadows. It opens its petals at sunrise and closes them towards noon.
The root is 25 cm long, dark grey on the outside and contains latex.
Flowers
Flowers are golden yellow, with the bracts usually longer than the petals.
Leaves
Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. Grass-like, tapering to a point with undulating margins, half clasping the stem.
Fruits Seeds
Achene: a large cluster of 1-seeded fruit with long hairs.
Edible
Young shoot and root, steamed or fried.
Medical
Root: beneficial to liver and gall bladder.
