Description

Orlaya grandiflora

Orlaya grandiflora is one of our most admired filler flowers.

All our seed is out latest harvest and super fresh.

Blooming early Summer just after Cow Parsley and Sweet Rocket but before  Ammi majus and Daucus carota dara . Its a must for anyone wanting to grow their own cut flowers as well as being a handsome garden plant!

Our super fresh robust seeds germinate brilliantly from an Autumn sowing. Seeds will only germinate when conditions are right so don’t worry if you have to wait several weeks for the first signs of life.

Plants are pre-programmed in nature to remain dormant until conditions are perfect.

How to grow:

For best results sow seeds in Autumn undercover into individual cells. leave uncovered and press lightly into the compost to make good contact. I have found that light aids germination.

If we experience a warm Autumn, pre-chill in the fridge for 1-2 weeks before sowing.

I find my seeds typically take 3 weeks to germinate.

Cut when almost all of the flowers on a stem are open. If harvested much earlier, the stems have a tendency to wilt.

Place flowers straight into ready buckets of water. We rest our stems for a few hours in water, this is called conditioning.
