Blizzard savages Star Wars Battlefront 2 in series of StarCraft tweets

So cold, so very cold

StarCraft 2 recently went free-to-play, and Blizzard wasted no time in cashing on the controversy around Star Wars Battlefront 2’s economy by pointing out all the things that StarCraft 2 doesn’t do now that the game is free in a series of tweets today.

“We spent a lot of time thinking about the right way to do this,” Blizzard’s Tim Morten told Polygon during a recent interview at BlizzCon. “It was very important to us that this be accomplished in a way that feels good to our current player base and also attractive to new players or lapsed players who haven’t played since Wings of Liberty.”

Today’s tweets don’t directly reference Battlefront 2, but they do seem to oddly mirror criticisms about that game’s monetization strategies.

OK, maybe we’re making something out of ...

No, that seems rather pointed.

OK, that’s probably a coincidence. Right? The Heroes of the Storm account even posted a tweet that stated they “saw what you did there.”

Fans seem to think that Blizzard may have gone a bit too far. But they’re cool with it.
