                           Cyst Treatment Center

Cysts are noncancerous, closed pockets of tissue that can be filled with fluid, pus, or other material.

Cysts are common on the skin and can appear anywhere

They feel like small peas under the surface of the skin. Cysts or Cyst can develop as a result of infection, clogging of sebaceous glands (oil glands), or around foreign bodies, such as earrings.

Milia are tiny skin cysts that are filled with  Keratin. They usually measure between 1 – 2 mm and look like small white or yellowish raised bumps on the skin. They resemble the appearance of a white head, but are harder in texture and cannot be extracted as easily. They usually form around the eyes, eyelids, nose and cheeks, although they can appear anywhere on the body. Milia can affect people of any age, but are most common in new born babies. These usually clear up on their own for babies and no treatment is needed, on the other hand in teenagers or adults treatment is usually suggested if the appearance of the Milia bothers them.

Milia Treatment

The Milia is extracted using a medical micro needle and a particular methods to minimize any scars, marks or infection. We do not advise you to self-treat milia at home.

Cysts are more accurately called epidermal cysts. Both terms have been used. These cysts are typically harmless, slow-growing bumps under the skin. They often appear on the scalp, face, ears, trunk, back, or groin area. They can arise from a ruptured follicle associated with acne, or be seen in a sebaceous duct that doesn't grow correctly, or from trauma to the area.

Sometimes they develop without clear explanation. The cysts usually contain keratin, lipid, and other skin particles. Cysts can remain stable or progressively grow. Sometimes they will become inflamed or suddenly rupture. This poses a risk for infection

Treatment for sebaceous cysts

Sebaceous cysts may resolve on their own, but tend to reappear. Treatment is not required unless it is the patient's preference. These cysts can be injected with medicine to reduce inflammation and prevent the need to drain them. Infected cysts, however, may need to be cut and drained by puncturing the top and removing its contents.

Large cysts can reappear after this procedure and may have to be surgically removed. If a cyst becomes swollen, tender, large, or infected, treatment may include antibiotics and then surgery.

Epidermal Cyst Removal: Surgical and Non-Surgical Solutions by Dr. Gary Rothfeld with Minimal to No Scarring

Epidermal cysts, also known as sebaceous cysts, can be a source of discomfort and cosmetic concern. These cysts, which are typically benign, can occur anywhere on the body and are often filled with a cheese-like substance. Dr. Gary Rothfeld, a leading dermatologist, specializes in the removal of epidermal cysts, offering advanced surgical and non-surgical approaches to ensure minimal to no scarring.

Understanding Epidermal Cysts

Epidermal cysts are closed sacs beneath the skin's surface that are lined with cells resembling the outermost layer of the skin (the epidermis). They can vary in size and often develop due to a blocked hair follicle or the accumulation of dead skin cells and sebum. Dr. Rothfeld's approach to removing epidermal cysts focuses on not only eliminating the cyst but also minimizing any potential scarring.

Non-Surgical Options

Intralesional Corticosteroid Injections: For small epidermal cysts or those with minimal inflammation, Dr. Rothfeld may recommend intralesional corticosteroid injections. This non-surgical approach involves injecting a corticosteroid solution directly into the cyst, reducing inflammation and promoting cyst shrinkage without the need for incisions.

Topical Treatments: In some cases, especially when dealing with superficial epidermal cysts, topical treatments like antibiotics or anti-inflammatory creams may be prescribed. These treatments can help reduce inflammation and promote the natural healing of the cyst, often leaving minimal to no scarring.
Surgical Approaches

Minimal Excision Techniques: Dr. Rothfeld employs advanced minimal excision techniques to surgically remove epidermal cysts while prioritizing cosmetic outcomes. These techniques involve making tiny incisions, typically less than 2 millimeters in size, to access and remove the cyst's contents. The smaller incisions result in significantly reduced scarring compared to traditional surgical methods.

Laser Ablation: Laser ablation is a surgical approach used to remove epidermal cysts by vaporizing their contents. Dr. Rothfeld uses precise laser technology to target and eliminate the cyst while minimizing damage to the surrounding tissue. This technique can lead to minimal scarring and a faster recovery.
Post-Procedure Care

After either non-surgical or surgical removal, Dr. Rothfeld emphasizes the importance of post-procedure care to optimize cosmetic outcomes. This includes wound care, the use of silicone gels or sheets to minimize scarring, and regular follow-up appointments to monitor the healing process.

Advanced Technologies

Dr. Rothfeld also utilizes state-of-the-art technologies, such as laser therapy and micro-needling, to further enhance the appearance of scars that may result from epidermal cyst removal. These modalities stimulate collagen production and skin regeneration, contributing to smoother, scar-free skin.

Dr. Gary Rothfeld's expertise in epidermal cyst removal combines the latest medical advancements with a deep commitment to minimal scarring or even scar elimination.
