How to check your Cervical Position (with pictures)

Hey everyone lately we have had a lot of ladies asking about how to check your CP (cervical position). What you are looking for position, texture and opening. (listed below are what you are looking for by non-fertile to fertile)

position: low, medium, and high

texture: firm, medium, and soft

opening: closed, medium, and open

To start you will need to insert 1 or 2 fingers. (index and middle finger are prefered.) Then you will stick them in as far as you can get. You will then be able to find your cervix. You might have to bend your fingers a bit to find it but it really depends.

NOTE: Please make sure you do this after you go to the restroom, checking after a bowel movement really helps for checking CP and CM (which you can do both at the same time!) and try and check around the same time a day. You can check multiple times a day but make sure you pick at least 1 time for a set time then record your most fertile results. (ex: if you check 3 times a day and 3 different results pick the most fertile of the 3). Make sure your dont scratch yourself with your nails and make sure your hands are clean. Do this everyday if you can, it can take awhile to get use to finding it and knowing the difference so dont get discouraged. Make sure you are in a comfortable position.

Now because visuals are better then just words...

You will be looking for the position. I good way to measure is by your pointer/middle finger knuckles. Your finger (from tip to 2nd knuckle)

Most fertile is High, Soft, and Open. Non-fertile will be Low, Firm, and Closed. A good rule of thumb for non-fertile is it will feel like the tip of your nose.

Here is a graph  that might help.

Make sure you are bbt charting to CONFIRM ovulation as opks, cp, and cm can vary day by day and you CAN have these fertile signs during your tww. BBT charting is the only for sure at home way of knowing that you DID ovulate (it tells you after you ovulate) the other signs tell you that you MIGHT be ovulating.

And finally, like stated above you might have to bend your fingers a bit to find your cervix.

Here are some other links you might need, dont forget you can check your cm the same time.

  • after O you can should ideally be low, firm and closed. Each person is different though and you can have fertile results in your tww. but being dry and closed are infertile even wiht it being High.

ETA: I just put what your have in my FF to see what if it would register as a fertile green square. nope its infertile.

  • So helpful! Thanks for taking the time to share this. Much appreciated.
  • If you are 9 DPO and possibly pregnant how high/low should your cervix be
