Dr BHB is this Strep? UPDATE in OP

I'm a lurker but need to know if I should make an appointment or just ride out a virus.

Almost 4 year old DS with 101 fever controlled by ibuprofen, complaining of stomach ache and sore throat. He has little red spots on the roof of his mouth.

Yep it's strep. Baby has it too. Great.

  • No cold symptoms really. He is achy and not interested in eating. Symptoms started yesterday morning. I knew something was wrong when he wouldn't eat the chocolate chip pancakes at brunch since they are his favorite thing in the world.

Symptoms seem to go away with ibuprofen but come back about an hour before I'm supposed to dose again.
  • 11:00 appointment. At least they got him in quickly. We have a 14 month old too so I hope he doesn't get it too.
  • Could be strep, mono, or the start of hfm. Glad you got him in.

  • ODS had red spots on roof of mouth about a month ago, with fever and loss if appetite because he said his mouth hurt when he ate... it was hfm
  • Def go to the doctor because if it IS strep, its contagious plus he will need antibiotics to get rid of it.

UGH, I hate strep, my daughter used to get it all of the time! :( It was passed around daycare constantly.

The pic reminds me of when my niece had thrush though....

    Hope he feels better ASAP!

  • Updated in OP but it is strep and both ODS and the baby have it. Ugh!
  • Call the school to let them know. Whenever one of my preschool students has a communicable disease (like strep) I have to post that the class may have been exposed.
