D'you think this is heat rash?

I've been merrily assuring people it is since it started, which was Wednesday. And on his chest and back, it *does* look like heat rash:

On his bottom and the backs of his thighs, though, the spots are more... spotty. Spread out, and pretty large:

He's spotty more or less everywhere, apart from face, neck, arms and groin. What d'you reckon - *is* it heat rash? And if so, should I be *doing* anything about it, other than trying to keep the poor chap from getting too hot? He has no other symptoms (and yes, the spots *do* disappear when pressed with a glass!)

  • OK...so you've done the sensible thing and checked the glass thing - so not meningitis.

Are the spots itchy...in which case it could be an allergy. Otherwise heat rash is perfectly possible in recent conditions!

I am allergic so something in cloudy lemonade (still not figured out what - and it's the only thing that affects me!) and come out in spots similar to those.

An antihistamine could help if it's an allergy or heat rash.

    A xx

  • It does look heat rash or much like urticaria (hives). This can last from a few hours to six weeks. If it is itchy an anti histamine will help. You can also apply calamine lotion if itchy. If he's not displaying any other symptoms (high temp, wheezy chest etc) then it might be worth *riding* it out. I would see your GP if it lasts (or shows no signs of shifting) as it might have an infection (viral/fungal/bacterial) in it. Cotton type clothing next to his skin.

  • Thank you so much, both of you - that's really helpful. He was wearing new (second hand) trousers on the day it started, which was also the first *really* hot day of the week. I'm wondering if perhaps it's a combination of heat, plus someone else's washing powder/fabric conditioner...

He's not itching at all. In fact, he didn't notice the spots until I did. No temperature. He does have a cough; but so does his twin, who is non-spotty.

I think I'll just monitor it for now. He has coeliac disease, which I think probably increases the likelihood of other autoimmune responses.

  • Both of mine have this rash on the back of their necks and chest area too. I've put it down to heat rash. Hope it clears up soon :)
