Interstitial Inguinal Hernia In Women: An Exceptional Anatomic VarietyTo present our experience with unexpected findings during hernia surgery, either unusual hernial contents or pathologic entities, like neoplastic masses, masquerading as a hernia. We studied retrospectively 856 patients with inguinal hernia who were admitted to our surgical department over a 9-year period. In addition, our study included patients complaining of inguinal protrusion, even without a definitive diagnosis of inguinal hernia upon admission. Five patients presented with unusual hernial contents. Three of them had a vermiform appendix in their sac. Acute appendicitis (Amyands hernia) was found in only one case. One patient had epiploic appendagitis related with a groin hernia. Moreover, an adult woman was diagnosed with ovarian and tubal inguinal hernia. Finally, we report a case of a massive extratesticular intrascrotal lipoma, initially misdiagnosed as a scrotal hernia. a hernia surgeon may encounter unexpected intraoperative findings. It is important to be prepared to de...

Verdicts of Inguinal Hernia Surgery: Report of Rare Case2022 •
Background and aim: To present our experience with unexpected findings during hernia surgery, either unusual hernia contents or pathologic individuals, like neoplastic masses, masked as a hernia. Patients and methods: We studied retrospectively 550 patients with inguinal hernia who were admitted to our surgery department over a 6-year period. In addition, our study included patients complaining of inguinal protrusion, even without a definitive diagnosis of inguinal hernia upon admission. Results: Five patients presented with unusual hernial contents. Three of them had a vermiform appendix in their sac. Acute appendicitis (Amyand’shernia) was found in only one case. One patient had epiploic appendagitis related with a groin hernia. Moreover, an adult woman was diagnosed with ovarian and tubal inguinal hernia. Finally, we report a case of a massive extra testicular intra scrotal lipoma, initially misdiagnosed as a scrotal hernia. Conclusion: A hernia surgeon may encounter unexpected i...

Rare Inguinal Hernia Cases with Minimal DissectionInguinal hernias are the most common type of hernia. These hernias result through a weak spot or tear in the lower abdominal wall, often in the inguinal canal. The main aim of the study is to assess the rare cases after the surgery of inguinal hernia. Data extracted from these papers included authors, country, year of publication, age and sex of patients, epidemiology, pathogenesis, risk factors for development of inguinal hernias, racial distribution, presenting symptoms, surgical treatment and unusual findings in inguinal hernia surgery were included in the study. Unusual cases of Inguinal Hernia Surgery and Risk factors for reoccurrence of Inguinal Hernia were discussed in the present study correlating it with the similar studies done in the past in various parts of the world. It may be concluded that even though hernia is a common surgical problem, up to date knowledge of herniology is important for proper repair of inguinal hernias to reduce recurrence rate, and careful handling of these unusual contents of inguinal hernias, to avoid damage to some of these structures.

The etiology of indirect inguinal hernias: congenital and/or acquired?2003 •
The development of indirect inguinal hernias in infants is caused by a patent processus vaginalis (PPV). Consequently, this type of hernia is cured by simple herniotomy. In adults, however, herniotomy alone is accompanied by a high recurrence rate. This indicates that additional factors play a part in the development of indirect inguinal hernias in adults. The aim of this study was to determine the etiology of the development of an indirect hernia in adult life. Also, the prevalence of a PPV without clinical evidence of a hernia was determined and related to age. From November 1998 until February 2002, 599 patients from four different teaching hospitals, who underwent abdominal laparoscopy for various pathologies, were included. During laparoscopy, the deep inguinal ring was bilaterally inspected. Patients undergoing laparoscopy for inguinal hernia repair were excluded. Mean age was 45 years (range 8-89 years). Thirty-two percent (189/599) were male. Twelve percent (71/599) had PPV,...

Inguinal Hernias: A Current Review of an Old ProblemAbstRACt The repair of groin hernias are amongst the most commonly performed procedures by the general surgeon today, with almost as many types of repairs as there are hernias. Inguinal hernias account for 75% of all abdominal wall hernias with a lifetime risk of 27% in men and 3% in women 1 . Repair techniques have evolved from open suture methods to mesh repairs done either open or laparoscopically, translating to improved patient care and decreasing complications associated with hernia repair. This article is intended to provide an overview of the presentation and latest evidence based guidelines for the management of inguinal hernias.

Inguinal hernia and occurrence on the other side: a prospective analysis in Iran2009 •
Indirect inguinal hernia (IH) is the most common type of hernia. Routine contralateral inguinal exploration, without clinical evidence of a hernia is still controversial especially in children. The purpose of our study was to determine incidence of contralateral IH. This is a prospective study of 301 patients during a one-year period. History of groin mass, positive findings, demonstrable hernia, or communicating hydrocele were our criteria for diagnosis. Our study includes 301 infants and children, 270 (89.7%) males and 31 (10.3%) females with mean age of two years and 40.9% under six months. In the follow-up period, we found 33 new IH in our patients. 23 (12%) of 196 patients less than two years old underwent contralateral herniorrhaphy in the follow-up period (P = 0.02). Six patients of 30 premature children underwent contralateral herniorrhaphy (P = 0.03). The incidence of contralateral hernia is approximately 10% and in our study it is approximately 1.7%. There is a significant...
