Cutaneous horns: are these lesions as innocent as they seem to be?2004 •
Cutaneous horns (cornu cutaneum) are uncommon lesions consisting of keratotic material resembling that of an animal horn. Cutaneous horn may arise from a wide range of the epidermal lesions, which may be benign, premalignant or malignant. In this respective study, we describe our experience of eleven patients with cutaneous horn treated at our centre between January 2000 and January 2004. The clinical, pathological and treatment details were extracted from the case records. Data is presented as frequency distribution. There were 8 male and 3 female patients with a median age of 57 years. Most of the lesions were located on the ear, hand and scalp. Surgical resection was carried out in all the lesions. There were two cases of squamous cell carcinoma, and one case of basal cell carcinoma, other 8 cases were benign. None of the lesions recurred and no adjuvant treatment was given to any of the malignant lesions. Cutaneous horn is a clinical diagnosis that refers to a conical projection...

A rare case of giant cutaneous hornCutaneous horn, a clinical manifestation of hyper-proliferation of compact keratin, can represent a wide array of underlying benign and malignant pathologies. Here we report a unique case of a giant cutaneous horn (7x4x3 cm) that developed on a chronic ulcer in a non sun-exposed area. This case presented challenges in terms of diagnosis and treatment. We also review the literature about this rare condition.

Cutaneous horn in a sun-protected site harbouring unusual malignancy2019 •
Cutaneous horns are conical, circumscribed projections formed by desquamation and layering of keratin. Although they can appear on the skin anywhere on the body, they are most commonly seen on the sun-exposed surfaces, and are often associated with solar keratosis. Cutaneous horns are most often benign, however they are a potential site of malignancy and may harbor premalignant or malignant lesions, the most common being squamous cell carcinoma, the causal relationship being straightforward and both squamous cell carcinoma and cutaneous horns can be equated with the common epithelial maker keratin. Other histological types of malignancies are not usually noted in conjunction with cutaneous horns. Here we describe a patient with a cutaneous horn over the volar aspect of the right forearm, a sun-protected site, harbouring basal cell carcinoma, an infrequent finding.

Penile cutaneous horn ten years after treatment of verrucous squamous cell carcinoma on penile glans: case report2012 •
Penile cutaneous horn is a clinical term that describes protruding hyperkeratosis, usually conical in shape, located on penile glans. Penile localization of this lesion, predominantly located on sun-exposed areas, is very rare. The association with malignancy on the penis makes proper identification of these lesions essential. We present a 45-year-old man with a cutaneous horn, 25 mm in size, located on the basis of penile glans. The patient had a history of phimosis, pseudoepitheliomatous balanoposthitis, surgical excision of penile verrucous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and postoperative radiotherapy of carcinoma in situ on the same localization, ten years before. Complete surgical removal of the horn with separate excision of the margins and base was done. Pathologic examination revealed squamous hyperplasia with suspicion of carcinoma in situ. Additional negative p16(INK4a) immunohistochemical analysis confirmed benign proliferative lesion. DNA polymerase chain reaction for hum...
