A New Adaptation of 'Eragon' Is In Development At Disney+
If you’re a fan of second chance adaptations, Disney might just be brewing up another. Today, it was reported that an Eragon TV series is in development at Disney+. That’s right, the network with a Percy Jackson series in development, from the company with a new Haunted Mansion film releasing in March, is tackling another Young Adult fantasy series.
Based on Christopher Paolini’s “Inheritance Cycle” series, Eragon was the first book in the series, first given wider publishing by Knopf in 2003, and was previously adapted into a 2006 film starring Ed Speleers as the title character. The supporting cast included Jeremy Irons, Robert Carlyle, Djimon Hounsou, Garrett Hedlund, and John Malkovich, with Rachel Weisz voicing Saphira, the dragon he bonded with as her Rider. Eragon and Saphira restore the ancient order of Dragon Riders to fight back against the villain King Galbatorix.

It was not received well, and so Eldest, Brisingr and Inheritance, the next books published in the series, following the film’s release, did not get adapted to film. This would therefore be their first chance, much like the final ten books of A Series of Unfortunate Events got their chance in the 2017-2019 Netflix series, and the final three books of Percy Jackson for the upcoming Disney+ series possibly in 2024.
Paolini will serve as co-writer, with Bert Salke as an executive producer under a banner he formed as Touchstone/Fox 21 was folded into 20th Television in 2020, with an overall deal at Disney.
