Erysipelas is an acute infection of the skin generally caused by group A b-hemolytic streptococcus, Streptococcus pyogenes. Phlegmonas spread deeper to subcutis, fascia and muscles. Erysipelas are associated with chronic venous insufficiency, leg ulcers, dermatophytosis and phlebitis. Another common predilection is lymphatic circulation disorder as in chronic lymphedema or after lymphaadenectomy.
