Signs of a Misaligned Uterus

As a Women’s Health Therapist, I use a Womb-Centered healing approach with my clients. When working with clients with pelvic issues, the first thing I do is center their uterus.

A women’s uterus is a seat of deep wisdom and creative power center. It is where we birth new life and new ideas into the world. The position of the uterus affects a person on a physical, emotional, and energetic level. When the uterus is out of alignment, the whole BEING is out of balance.

This long over-looked organ is capable of wandering out of its center due to lifestyle choices, injuries, stress, and/or surgeries. Supported by several important ligaments, the uterus is suspended in the pelvic bowl with attachments to the bladder, bowel, and intestines. Blood flow, nerve flow, lymphatic circulation, and neuro-hormonal feedback is all impacted by a malpositioned uterus. When it’s leaning too far forward on the bladder (anteflexed) or backward on the bowel (retroflexed), or to one side or the other, it can lead to myofascial imbalance, which can cause pain, menstrual problems, pelvic floor dysfunction, fertility challenges, and hormonal imbalances.

The following is a list of the most common uterine positions. However, it is important to note that combinations of the positions are found in many females.

Signs of Retroversion/Retroflexion:

  • Brown blood at beginning of cycle

  • Constipation

  • Pencil-thin stools that worsen during menses

  • Hemorrhoids

  • Rectocele (Bowel Prolapse)

Signs of Anteflexion/Anteversion:

  • Frequent urination

  • Urinary incontinence

  • Bladder issues

  • Brown Blood

Signs of Left or Right Side Leaning:

  • Hip dysfunction

  • Low Back Pain

  • Poor alignment

In my practice, I have found the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® (ATMAT) to be incredibly effective in bringing the uterus back into balance. This is an external, non-invasive massage technique that passively brings the uterus back to its throne! Effects can often be seen after just one visit.

This special massage technique helps to release any myofascial and ligamentous restrictions that are leading to a malpositioned uterus. Also, by improving blood flow and lymphatic circulation to the gut and pelvic organs, ATMAT® improves digestion and organ detoxification.

After the uterus has been centered, I work with clients to develop habits and lifestyle to help keep the uterus happy and balanced. This includes teaching them to apply the self-massage daily. Developing a healed relationship with uterus & womb space is a deeper practice that requires going beyond the physical layers. The Womb often holds many emotional and energetic imprints that block its full expression. To access these more subtle energy layers, I work clients using guided meditation, shamanic healing practices, Reiki, and stone medicine.

It’s amazing to see the effects of a balanced uterus. When all systems of flow are unimpeded, the uterus can receive adequate blood flow and detox more efficiently.

Who is this Therapy for?

This work is beneficial for folks of all ages!

Anyone born with a uterus, even if it was removed for medical or personal reasons. I recognize gender as a construct and respect that not all women have a uterus/womb and that not all people with a uterus/womb are women. Lotus Womb serves all folks who have or have had a uterus.
