Triple Choir Stall with Canopy

French

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 305

Beneath a carved canopy, the choir stalls are further decorated along the seat backs with gothic blind arcades and tracery. The seats here are in their lower position; when raised, a misericord provides a shallow seat against which the monk could rest during the liturgical offices.
