- 3. SYMPTOMS • PAIN: In severe cases, pain also occurs at the roof of the mouth alongside swelling. Although the reason behind this problem is usually not too intense, in a few cases some of the conditions behind this pain are quite serious. These include liver diseases, hepatitis, and oral cancer.
- 4. • DRY MOUTH: Dry mouth is a condition that is indicative of several problems. Usually, dry mouth is a common symptom of trauma or an obstruction in the saliva glands. Being heavy on liquor can also result in dehydration that causes mouth dryness and swelling in the roof of the mouth. • SORES AND BLISTERS: Cold sores lead to small nodules or bumps being formed in the mouth, commonly on the sides of your tongue. As these increase in size, these spots can become irritating and painful

More so, it also aids in the sterilization of the mouth keeping germs and bacteria at bay. Therefore, mix salt and water, swish it in your mouth and spit it out. Home remedies are tried and tested but given that they do not work out on the symptoms of mouths sores, it is highly advisable that you stop your self-medication and immediately visit a general physician. For instance, if you are experiencing: • Pain while drinking fluids • Have sores on the roof of your mouth that change color • Are already a patient of cancer or HIV • Have white patches on your tongue or upper palate • Notice rash, high body temperature or difficulty in swallowing, then you should wait no more and rush to seek medical aid.

TREATMENT Mouth soreness is not an issue that should send goose bumps down your spine as it usually goes by itself in a week or two, however, if the sores are hard in texture and large, then a doctor may come in handy. Typically, a doctor may prescribe a corticosteroid ointment along with an antimicrobial mouth rinse. At other times, dentists may only prescribe an in- clinic made solution that should send the pain, swelling and any irritation away.

Some other forms of treatments are listed below: • TRAUMA: In the case of a physical injury or if you burn the roof of your mouth accidentally, then you should immediately rinse it with cold water. Oral gels or soothing gels can also come in handy here. • ELECTROLYTE IMBALANCE: If the sores at the roof of the mouth are due to an electrolyte imbalance, then you may need to drink plenty of fluids and soothing liquids. In severe cases, you may also be headed to the Emergency Department of the hospital for urgent care.
- 14. • SORES OR BLISTERS: Normally, both canker sores as well as cold sores go by their own in a matter of ten days or so. Given that they do not, antibiotic may be prescribed to you along with some pain relieving gels. • CANCER: If cancer is behind your symptoms, then your doctor may refer you to an oncologist. High levels of stress may lead to canker sores. • Keep your Vitamin B levels in check and take supplements if you have low levels of Vitamin B, as people with a deficiency of this vitamin have reported suffering from mouth sores
