Horrifying pics as pest control discover bedbug infestation ‘an inch thick’ hiding under mattress

The bed bugs were also found swarming an entire wall in one of the homes, according to NBC affiliate KPNX in Phoenix.

Bed bugs are parasitic insects that feed on the blood of humans and animals usually while they are asleep, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

They are reddish-brown in color and can range in size from 1mm to 7mm – they can go weeks without a meal, which allows swarms of them to build up.

Local extermination company Burns Best Eliminations was called to tackle the infestations.

The company took photos of the infestations and shared them with KPNX.

In Sun City, the bed bugs took over a king-sized bed in the home.

The population of beg bugs was so massive that it was under almost the entire bed, about an inch deep.

In Scottsdale, the bed bugs were discovered in an “undisclosed location.”

But the extermination company said that the infestation was way worse than the Sun City one.

Overall, there were around 10,000 pests found in the Scottsdale home, per KPNX.

PREVENT BED BUGS

The best way to prevent a bed bug infestation is to stay aware of signs before it starts to get uncontrollable, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

"They can move from an infested site to a new home by traveling on furniture, bedding, luggage, boxes, and clothing," the agency said on its website.

Some other common places bed bugs can be found are in the seams of chairs, drawers, couches, cushions, and curtains.

Along with appliances, under loose wallpaper/hangings, or at the junction of the wall and celling, per the CDC.

Bed bug bites are tricky as well because when a person is bitten they inject an anesthetic and an anticoagulant that prevents people from feeling the bite.
